With the foundation of the specialized team for outpatient palliative care (SAPV) in 2016, a significant step has already been taken in this direction. This team helped numerous people who want to spend their last years of life in a familiar environment.

In order to react more effectively to the challenges of an aging society, various actors from the hospice and palliative care have come together. The new structure is intended to ensure that the supply not only improved, but can also be adjusted as required. This requires a close -meshed network in which volunteers and specialists from different areas work together. The health insurance company AOK Kaufbeuren-Ostallgäu will play a central role here.

A first meeting took place in June, in which the AOK officially announced its participation in this new palliative network. Dr. Theresa Schuster, managing director of the SAPV, presented the conceptual plans in this exchange. "The AOK has been supporting this regional initiative since 2008 and is therefore responsible for contributing to improve palliative care in the future," noted AOK director Bernd Ruppert. It is optimistic about the new partnership and emphasizes the importance of a structured coordination in the palliative network.

With the signed cooperation agreement, the Palliative Network Kaufbeuren-Ostallgäu will officially start work on January 1, 2025. Those responsible, including Wolfgang Seidler, the AOK advisory board chairman, emphasize that the planned measures will make an essential contribution to improving the supply chain for seriously ill people. "The diverse AOK range of services is significantly enriched and supplemented by this cooperation," says Seidler.

The establishment of this new network goes beyond mere cooperation: it also provides for a closer link between existing health structures. This means that help and resources will be easier to access and can better communicate all actors - from specialists to nursing staff to volunteers. The integrative approach is therefore a central element of the new strategy.

In today's world, in which the number of people and people in need of care increases steadily, it is of immense importance that the supply is structured and targeted.
