shock for the regular guests! The old Jagdhaus Looganlage in the Gimmeldinger Tal is facing a dramatic change: The tenant Matthias Klaus and his wife will dissolve their lease at the end of the year!

Matthias Klaus took over the popular forest bar in December 2019, but the start was anything but promising. As soon as he had opened the doors, the first lockdown came because of the corona pandemic. "We hardly had time to set up, we had to close," recalls the trained cook. Despite all the adversities and the tireless efforts to win back the loyal guests, the dream of successful restaurant has burst. After five years of hard work, Klaus is now pulling the ripcord.

economic pressure and personal losses

"I have to get out for economic reasons so as not to enlarge the financial damage to my family into infinity," explains Klaus. In his opinion, the gastronomy has never really recovered from the Corona cuts. The lack of personnel also adds to him, and the prices in the forest restaurant do not allow high wages. "People save when they go out, and in the forest they expect cheap food in good quality," he says frustrated. Many applicants prefer to receive citizens' fees instead of working for a low salary.

In order to gain financial scope, Klaus has even refrained from paying in his pension in recent years. The Corona Sleofilfen were quickly used up, and now there are a risk of tax claims and repayments in the help. "We are probably in front of the bankruptcy," says Klaus with a heavy heart. After the end of the lease, he will leave the gastronomy behind and start training as an electrical engineer. "I want to go into a job with a positive future perspective," says his determination.

Thomas Hellmer, owner of the Hellmer winery, deeply regrets the withdrawal of the tenants. "We had a very good relationship and hope that we will quickly find new tenants who continue the tradition and quality of the loog system," he says. Interested parties can report directly to the Hellmer winery to take over the restaurant from January 2025. The future of the loog system is on the brink - it remains to be seen who will start the legacy!
