Young people steal perfum of mailboxes - police strike!
In the heart of Vienna, five young people caused excitement on Sunday evening when they allegedly ransacked packages from the mailboxes of an multi -party house. According to krone.at , a concerned resident immediately alerted the police after the teenagers removed pick -up certificates and opened several reception boxes. In one of the letters, they discovered perfume bottles that they distributed immediately. Thanks to an exact description, the suspects-including a 13-year-old Syrian citizen, two 14-year-old young people and two other, 16 and 17-year-old Slovak citizens-could be quickly caught. The Vienna public prosecutor's office ordered that the youngsters are reported at large for suspected burglary theft.

In the meantime, there is also a remarkable event in Prague. An exhibition was opened in the Prague Postmuseum, which was given to the 200th anniversary of the introduction of mailboxes in the countries of the former k. u. k. Monarchy is dedicated. The first mailboxes were originally installed in Austria in 1785, but only introduced in 1817 in all Viennese post offices. Like german.radio.cz , the exhibition not only shows various historical letter boxes made of wood, metal and plastic, but also old photographs and documents that the development of postal services illustrate.
The exhibition can be seen until February 25, 2025 and illuminates the historical significance of the mailboxes, which were used at times to deposit finds, since the functionality was not always clear. Curator Jan Kramář explains that the uniform mailboxes from sheet metal have played an important role in communication since 1869 and their design has been developed over the years.
