Vienna innovates: Smart traffic lights now also recognize people with restrictions!
Vienna brings a new era for pedestrian lights: As of now, state -of -the -art, intelligent traffic lights ensure more security and fewer waiting times. These advanced signal providers, which have been tested in the city since 2018, are now using groundbreaking technology to leave pedestrians across the street faster. As steiermark.orf.at , the new models were developed with impressive skills at the Graz University of Technology. Thanks to a revolutionary camera resolution and powerful computing capacities - between 100 and 300 teraflops - these traffic lights can easily recognize people with mobility restrictions and childcare.
The additional technology of the new traffic lights enables simultaneous monitoring of several transitions. Project manager Horst Possegger explains that the systems can predict the movable passage of pedestrians with an accuracy of 99 percent. The highlight? If necessary, you extend the green phase for people who need longer to cross, including users of rollators or crutches. This highly developed system only records images locally and deletes them in record-breaking 50 milliseconds to ensure data protection-such as TU Graz indicates.
innovative technology for more security
This new traffic light system not only has technical innovations, but is also a non -profit project: the data that is collected about the number of passers -by and their mobility restrictions are used to optimize the approval of traffic lights in larger traffic areas. The traffic lights react intelligently to people's movement patterns and thus make a major contribution to safety in road traffic. At a time when technical solutions are becoming increasingly important, Vienna is once again a pioneer in the field of urban infrastructure.
