Traffic calming in the inner city: more quality of life for everyone!

Finally the time has come: The long -awaited traffic calming of the inner city of Vienna accepts concrete forms. The party leader of the SPÖ Inner city, municipal council Georg Niedermühlbichler, and his deputy Lucia Grabetz are happy about the political support of the new federal government, which has created decisive measures for the implementation of the project. The new Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Peter Hanke, plays a central role. "With this new government, nothing stands in the way of the implementation of traffic calming," emphasizes Niedermühlbichler. For the SPÖ, it is important to significantly improve the quality of life of the residents by creating more space for pedestrians and green areas, as well as wien.gv.at

The announced traffic calming will not only drastically reduce the entrances into the inner city, but also reduce the number of parked vehicles. According to a feasibility study, it is planned to reduce the entrances by around 30 percent and the parking space utilization by 23 percent. In the future, only residents: inside, users: inside of public garages and urban services, will enter into the 1st district, which could lead to a total of 15,700 fewer entrances per day. This brings a noticeable relief for the residents and improves the traffic conditions in the city center. City Councilor Ulli Sima emphasizes: "We want to reduce motorized private transport here and create a significant contribution to climate protection with the traffic calming", as well as on wien.gv.at

efficient access management and data protection

With the planned monitoring of access roads by cameras, the city of Vienna can identify unauthorized entrances at an early stage and thus regulate the inner -city traffic sustainably. The technology enables the photos of the license plates to be deleted immediately in legal entrances, which also takes into account data protection. "The feasibility study shows that we can significantly relieve traffic through the camera -based access management," explains district manager Markus Figl. Of the currently 34 examinable access roads, only 26 will remain. These steps ensure that other central challenges such as reducing noise and pollutants are also addressed to further increase the quality of life in the inner city.
