Finanzonline: 2-factor authentication from October 2025 Mandatory!

ÖSTERREICH - From October 1, 2025, access to the digital platform Finanzonline will only be possible via 2-factor authentication. The Federal Ministry of Finance announced this and thus underlines the continued trend to improve security in the digital financial sector. Users who use ID Austria do not have to register with Finanzonline. As early as February 2025, there will be a way to set up the 2-factor authentication-users only need an authenticator app like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. For everyone who cannot use ID Austria, an alternative authentication method will be available that can be activated directly in Finanzonline. From February, users will receive a clear note on the future 2-factor authentication when logging in, including a step-by-step instructions for support in the registration process.
