New life for the seven Swabians: Who is ready for Fasnet?

Munderkingen, Deutschland - In Munderkingen, the tradition of the "Seven Swabians" is in danger! With the foolish parades on Fasnets Sunday, they have been inspiring the audience with a funny spectacle for over a century, where they hunt for an "unbeat" with a huge skewer. But now the group is threatened with how the Schwäbische Zeitung . The board, Stephanie Mohn, warns that new members are urgently needed because many of the previous actors leave for professional reasons or on the basis of exams during the Fasnet. A particularly tragic loss is the rabbit that changes to drumming.

A call to save tradition

With calls on social media and in the press, the traditional group is to be saved. The main reason for the lack of members is high fluctuation, especially in the age -appropriate group. At the moment there is a lack of adequate offspring, since many potential members are already committed. "Having fun with the Fasnet" is the most important prerequisite for participation in the moves. To run along, the members must be at least 16 years old and male unless they embody the rabbit. Participation in the moves is a way to keep the rich customs and the history of the region alive.

The Fasnet itself has a long history in Upper Swabia that goes back to the 14th century. From the Chronicle in Bad Saulgau there are first mentions of the Fasnet in 1355. After centuries of carnival bans and the resuscitation of tradition, there is a fool's guild in almost every city that also keeps the "old" Fasnet alive, as the page about the Schwäbisch-Alemannische Fasnet describes. Despite the challenges, the FasnetSeist in the region continues and it remains to be hoped that new carnival enthusiasts will be found to support the “seven Swabians” and continue tradition.
