Anniversary in Pimpfing: 130 years of volunteer fire brigade!

The celebrations for the 130th anniversary of the Pimpfing volunteer fire brigade in the municipality of Andorf took place on May 17, 2025 and attracted a total of 25 fire brigades. This important anniversary was celebrated with a traditional barbecue that ended the festival weekend. Preparations for the anniversary celebration required several days of construction work, which, however, proved to be worthwhile.

The ceremony began with an opening speech by the commander, followed by greetings from prominent guests of honor from politics and the fire brigade associations. The partner fire brigade from Höflas (Bavaria) is particularly mentioned, the members of which also took part in the celebrations. Another highlight was the thanksgiving of Pastor Mag. Erwin Kalteis, who underlined the emotional binding of the fire brigade to the community.

Fest and chronicle

The celebration not only expressed the joy of the anniversary, but also represented an intensive time of review. Klaus Prechtl and Thomas Straßl created a fire chronicle in countless hours of working that documented the history of the past 130 years. At the grill festival on Sunday, which formed the cozy end of the festival weekend, the festival hall was the focus for numerous visitors who enjoyed diverse dishes.

Similar celebrations also took place in the Rottenbach volunteer fire brigade, which celebrated its 130th anniversary. During these events, a newly written fire chronicle was presented, which includes 180 pages and traces the development of the fire brigade from 1894 to 2024. This chronicle not only addresses the history of the fire brigade, but also the influence of economic and social changes.

The technical aids have developed over the centuries: the invention of the hose in the 16th century, hand pumps and the incoming internal combustion engine continuously improved the equipment of the fire brigades.

clubs that emerged from gymnastics clubs led to the creation of many volunteer fire brigades in Europe, while professional fire departments in the USA were organized in the mid -19th century. In Germany, the first volunteer fire brigade was founded according to today's understanding in Meißen in 1841.
