Economic boom for Austria: New package for SMEs decides on the future!

In the middle of a challenging economic situation, the Austrian federal government decided on March 12, 2025. Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer emphasized that this package aims to avert the negative effects of the third recession in a row and to strengthen domestic companies. These companies are of crucial importance because they secure around 2.5 million jobs and contribute more than 160 billion euros to the country's gross value added, as he stated. The measures are intended to benefit small and medium-sized companies in particular, which are often regarded as the backbone of the Austrian economy, reports .

The package includes several central measures to reduce bureaucracy and create tax relief. This includes increasing the basic flat rate in two steps: First, it is raised to 320,000 euros and 13.5 percent, followed by a further increase to 420,000 euros and 15 percent in 2026. The standard consumption tax (Nova) for light commercial vehicles will also be deleted from July 1, 2025, which means that companies can expect cheaper vehicle costs. State Secretary Barbara Eibinger-Miedl emphasized that these measures set essential impulses to promote domestic value creation, such as Sn.at reported.

The Federal Government also underlines its commitment to create more transparency in bureaucracy costs and the elimination of dual tracks. A newly established state secretariat will act as the central point of contact for questions of bureaucracy. State Secretary for Deregulation, Josef Schellhorn, emphasized the need to accelerate the processes and analyze the large number of reporting obligations at both national and European level. With these measures, the government wants to ensure that Austria is stimulated and that companies have to overcome fewer administrative hurdles.
