Vienna in turmoil: criticism of return plans for Syrian refugees!
The Austrian Ministry of the Interior has recently been offering a financial incentive measure for Syrian refugees who want to return to their home country. As part of this special allowance, up to 1000 euros are to be provided as support for a "new start" in Syria, as the Federal Slearing Agency (BBU) confirmed. In addition to this financial aid, returning will also receive support in organizing your journey home and the necessary procurement of documents. This was launched as a targeted measure to promote the return of Syrians after the Assad regime has fallen, reports Vol.at
reinforced inquiries and criticism
The BBU reports an increase in inquiries from Syrian refugees who find out about the return options. Many of them are currently observing the uncertain location in their country of origin and are undecided whether they should actually return. Nevertheless, there are targeted incentives via social media and the official website of the Interior Ministry to promote the return. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said that the focus was on organizing return flights and the support for people who have become criminal or not integrated, but always on the prerequisite of a stable security situation in Syria, such as Tt.com reported.
The measures met with criticism, especially Viennese archbishop Christoph Schönborn, who found the reactions of the federal government to be dismayed to the change of regime. In his column, he noted that instead of offering hope and support, the first reports were a "deportation program", which triggered despair in many Syrians. Schönborn called for a more individual examination of the asylum sayings and criticized the general panic meter about the topic of return.
