Resistance to payment cards: Civil society raises its voice!

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Deutschland - In Germany, the introduction of payment cards ensures refugees for excitement. These new maps, which act as a credit-based means of payment, were introduced as part of the Asylum seeker service law to enable asylum seekers: inside uniform and controlled support. In March 2024, the Federal Government decided a change in the law that expressly records the payment card as a form of performance. After intensive consultations in the Bundestag and the subsequent approval of the Federal Council, the law came into force on May 16, 2024. As The Federal Government reports, the payment card enables the refugees to receive their services to them easily and safely.

criticism and restrictions

Despite the positive intentions, there is violent criticism of the handling of the payment cards right from the start. How Perspective Daily documented, many asylum seekers complain about significant restrictions: So only 50 euros in cash can be canceled every month, which is enormous pressure on the financial Flexibility. In addition, the uses of the card are often limited, which limits the mobility of the refugees. The specific design is the responsibility of the individual federal states, which leads to further differences and misunderstandings in the application.

The aim of these measures is to prevent money transfers abroad and ensure that the funds provided are used exclusively for the life of refugees in Germany. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen how society, the authorities and ultimately those affected themselves will deal with these new challenges.
