Shocking test results: Pfas poison our grain!

Österreich - Olga Voglauer, agricultural spokeswoman for the Greens, has been extremely concerned about the strain on grain products with eternal skills, the so -called PFAs, with regard to current test results of Global2000 and AK Upper Austria. According to the investigations, all 48 tested samples, including cookies, flour, pasta and grains, are loaded. The values are over 100 times higher than in ground or tap water and even 400 times higher than in rainwater. These alarming results illustrate the need for urgent measures.

Voglauer appeals to Minister of Agriculture Totschnig to take measures against the use of Pfas pesticides. It points out that organic products are less burdened in the tests than conventional products. The pesticide reduction product TFA, which not only remains in the environment, is particularly worrying, but is also associated with health risks. German authorities have now classified TFA into a higher danger class and categorized it as dangerous to reproduce. The use of PFAS and TFA, also in Austria, could have far -reaching consequences for public health.

dangers of Pfas

PFAS, which are known for their extreme stability and durability, can pollute water and soil and accumulate in the body of humans and animals. The health risks are alarming: they can reduce the vaccination effect, impair fertility, lead to increased cholesterol levels, increase the risk of diabetes and even increase the risk of cancer. These chemicals are biodegradable and get into the human body via different ways, such as contaminated foods, drinking water and even breast milk in infants. A study shows that almost all people have PfAs in their blood, which indicates the extensive spread of these pollutants. It is particularly worrying that the PFAS concentration in the blood was so high in up to a quarter of young people that health effects cannot be excluded.

The federal government is asked to take responsibility and to support a comprehensive ban on PFAs in the EU. However, a corresponding application for the introduction of a transparency database on the use of PFAS pesticides was postponed to the Agricultural Committee in April. Voglauer also calls for a special measurement program for TFA residues in food from Health Minister Schumann.

urgent need for action

The current debate about PFAS is additionally fueled by the Dupont scandal in the USA. This incident has massively increased public interest in the dangers of these chemicals. In Germany, over 1,000 children have been shown to have PfAs in their blood. This shows the urgent need for regulation and restriction of PFAS products, especially in view of the fact that many consumers can hardly influence their exposure to these chemicals. The use of PFAS is varied - from non -stick -coated cookware to stain -protected textiles to water -repellent packaging.

The European Commission has already determined the highest levels for certain PFAs in food such as fish, meat and eggs. Nevertheless, protection against these harmful chemicals can be improved. Consumers are asked to minimize their exposure by foregoing PFAS-containing products and consulting manufacturers. The situation is dramatic and measures are urgently needed to protect the health of the population and the environment.
