Austria's role in the Ukraine conflict: help and diplomacy in demand!
The Russian attack war against Ukraine, which began three years ago, remains a central topic in Austrian politics. On the occasion of the anniversary, a “Ukraine-Roundtable” with representatives of all major parties, the Ukrainian ambassador Dr. Vasyl khymynets and experts take place. Only the FPÖ refused to participate. It was discussed how Austria can continue to help the Ukraine, especially in this difficult time, as Khymynets emphasized, where many people suffer from the attack. "In these difficult times, we hope that Austria will continue to help us," he said. Representatives of the Greens and the SPÖ put the importance of humanitarian aid and psychological care for returnees in the foreground, while the idea of sustainable reconstruction was also discussed, as Cornelius Granig from the Ukraine-Hilfe Austria suggested
At the same time, Germany provides significant support for Ukrainian refugees. Over a million people from Ukraine now live in Germany, many of them are women and children. The Federal Government has set up comprehensive aid, including financial support for accommodation, German language courses and aid projects such as "Move", which promotes sporting encounters for children and young people. Germany also provides military support in the form of weapons and equipment to support Ukraine in their resistance. Especially in regions close to the front, the focus is on humanitarian aid, since millions are in acute need and remain dependent on support.
Austria's commitment and Germany's support
Austria sees itself as responsibility to contribute to the support of Ukraine. As part of the conversation in parliament, it became clear that it is not only about material help, but also about the provision of psychological support and diplomatic services. The goal is to take on an active role in the mediation of peace and humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, Germany remains the second largest bilateral donor for humanitarian aid in Ukraine and has undertaken to support the urgently needed reconstruction. In close cooperation with international organizations, the federal government ensures that vital goods such as water and food reach those affected promptly. Coordinated support should not only help at short notice, but also offer long -term perspectives to promote the state's ability to act.
