Austria's traffic light coalition: New ways in asylum and security policy!
After 155 days of negotiations,Austria has finally formed a new government among the managers of the traffic light coalition consisting of ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos. As part of an exclusive interview with OE24.TV, the party leaders explained their priorities, including a courageous economic policy and strict measures in the asylum area. Christian Stocker, the new Federal Chancellor, emphasized that the immediate stop of the family reunification should set an important sign to change asylum policy effectively and to offer the population security. He explained: "From now on, the interior minister is to create the prerequisites." These decisions come against the background of a tense financial situation of the country and growing social issues relating to migration.
reactions to security measures
At the same time, the Federal Government in Germany reacted to the brutal knife attack in Solingen and announced a comprehensive "security package". According to Tagesschau.de, the package provides significantly tightened asylum and security laws, which include, among other things, stricter regulations for migrants. In particular, the cancellation of social benefits for refugees subject to departure are sought in another EU country. The new investigative options for security authorities, such as the biometric comparison to facial recognition, are also part of the measures to help prevent future acts of violence. "The package strengthens security in Germany," said Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser and points out that these changes are necessary due to the increasing threats from Islamist terror. Both governments in Austria and Germany face considerable challenges and emphasize the need to take measures that guarantee both the security of the citizens and consolidate control over immigration policy. In the EU, it is also working on the implementation of a common asylum system that provides faster deportations and targeted measures for rejected asylum seekers. While the debates about the optimal solutions are in full swing, one thing is certain: politics in both countries now have to act to counter the dangers of uncontrolled migration and to regain the trust of the population.
