Austria stands against laboratory meat - Carinthia shows clear edge!
Kärnten, Österreich - The Carinthia Chamber of Agriculture has with its petition "Laboratory meat? No thanks!" The impressive success was achieved: 43,625 signatures were collected to prevent the approval of laboratory meat in Austria and Europe. This strong vote shows that the population has clear reservations against artificially generated meat, which LK President Siegfried Huber and agricultural officer LHStV. Martin Gruber was recognized. They emphasize that this great support of the population has made it possible to place the topic decisively during the government negotiations, such as gailtal-journal.at
The new federal government has now also moved into a clear position and spoke out against the approval of laboratory meat. Huber would like to thank everyone who contributed to the petition in their voice. Success not only shows that the population does not want experiments with their food, but also that the initiative from Carinthia is bearing fruit at the political level. The agricultural officer sees this intermediate success as an incentive to form an alliance against laboratory meat at European level. The pressure for a ban is growing, especially since the European food authority is already examining an application for approval of laboratory meat, which could have significant effects on domestic agriculture, such as ktn.lko.at reported.
Common resistance to laboratory meat
The results of the petition and an associated consumer survey, in which 90 % of those surveyed are against laboratory meat, provide politicians in Carinthia to clearly underpin their position. Gruber emphasizes that it is not only about economic issues, but also about the protection of consumers and the preservation of domestic agriculture. It is also emphasized that approval of laboratory meat would endanger the continued existence of many traditional companies, since the large food companies are trying to expand their influence to gain market shares.
With the clear commitment to rejecting laboratory meat, the organizers want to ensure that this topic remains in the political discussion. The goal is to hand over the signatures to the negotiating parties of the new federal government in November in order to anchor a ban in the government program and to fight for the voice of the citizens in Brussels.
