Coalition negotiations: Why 72 % of the citizens see them negatively!
The current Situation in Austria is alarming: A survey shows that the parliamentary parties have lost massive trust among the population. According to the Lazarsfeld Gesellschaft, 72 % of the 1,000 people surveyed evaluated the ongoing coalition negotiations negatively - including 56 %, the conversations are "very negative". Negotiations find only 10 % as positive. The dissatisfaction among the voters of the FPÖ is particularly dramatic, where impressive 84 %of the respondents consider the formation of government to be negative, followed by the voters of the ÖVP (59 %) and the SPÖ (60 %). These alarming numbers throw a worrying light on the current political situation in Austria, such as oe24 reported.
government formation in Germany after the election
At the same time, the Bundestag election 2025 is also just around the corner in Germany, and the questions about government formation are already in the discussion. After the election, the incumbent federal government remains capable of acting and ensures that Germany remains administrative, as was explained on bundes-regierung.de . This “managing federal government” has the same powers as a regular government, but usually does not make any decisions that would bind a future government.
The Basic Law enables the existing government to remain in office until the constituent meeting of the new Bundestag, which should ensure a smooth transition. Nevertheless, the pressure on political parties is high to lead clear coalition negotiations in order to offer voters the urgently needed stability. These complex processes show how important public perception and trust in politics are for future government formation. Both countries are therefore facing major challenges in the political landscape, both in the perception and in the reality of their government education processes.
