Climate crisis: Federal Government on a collision course with EU requirements!

Österreich - The environmental organization virus urgently warns of a possible crash of the federal government's budget course. In a current statement, the spokesman Wolfgang Rehm calls for a change in budget policy, since the current measures are considered socially unbalanced and incompatible with the national energy and climate plan (NEKP). "The federal government is driving a dangerous course as a climate spirits," criticizes Rehm. In addition, it is pointed out to comply with EU requirements, whereby possible penalty payments are in the room.

The budget speech mentioned and the public appearances of the Federal Minister give the impression that savings are made, especially among small earners, while wealthy layers remained undoressed or even rewarded. This practice described as a clientele policy, especially through measures such as the deletion of the Nova for pickup vehicles and the commuter neuro, is met with violent criticism.

climate -damaging projects and subsidies

Another criticism concerns climate -damaging road construction projects, such as the Lobautunnel. The environmental organization demands that Austria, in its role as an EU member state, take its obligations seriously and to reduce climate-damaging subsidies instead of increasing them. Rehm emphasizes that three -digit million contributions to the budget are required to ensure the freedom of consolidation. "We have to initiate a rethinking process in order not to continue to burden ASFINAG's maintenance effort with new construction projects," said Rehm.

These demands are in line with the goals of the European Union, which has defined high environmental standards that are among the best worldwide. According to EU policy, a perspective is to be developed by 2050 by 2020 to promote resource-efficient, environmentally friendly and competitive CO2 economy. The defined goals also include the protection of our natural capital as well as the improvement of air quality and waste management.

EU environmental policy in focus

European environmental policy includes important priorities such as the protection of endangered species and natural areas as well as the cleanliness of drinking water and bathing water. It is also a central concern to protect citizens from environmentally related stress and health risks. In this context, the EU emphasizes that environmental protection and innovation can also create new business opportunities and employment opportunities. Ecological growth is considered essential to secure an environmentally friendly economic growth in the long term.

The warnings of virus and the demands based on it illustrate the urgency of a rethink in Austrian budget policy in order not only to meet climate and environmental policy obligations, but also to take into account the social issues of the population appropriately. While Austria's government is moving on the field of budget policy, the need for a change of course is becoming increasingly clear.
