Energy transformation: Austria relies on clean electricity for everyone!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - The new federal government presented ambitious measures to transform the energy system on February 27, 2025 in its government program. These should guarantee the households and the economy in Austria secure, clean and affordable electricity. Barbara Schmidt, Secretary General of Austria's energy, expressed a positive statement about the planned legislative projects such as the acceleration of approval procedures and the new Electricity Economic Act, which should come into force until summer. "We recognize and recognize the commitment of the future government to drive the transformation forward," said Schmidt. At the same time, however, there are concerns about a planned “location contribution” of 200 million euros that could put a strain on the investments in the industry.
In connection with these developments, the Federal Government also comments on the national reform program 2024 on the country-specific recommendations of the EU Commission, which focus on economic and employment policy challenges, including promoting the energy transition and digitization. In this context, the federal government plans to lower inflation and to stabilize energy prices after the price increase rate could be reduced to 2.5 percent in February 2024. This has been the lowest value since June 2021, which gives households a certain relief.important steps in the energy industry
The government program also calls for a reform of network tariffs, which should be geared towards the actual performance in the future. This should reduce the costs for consumers in the long term. The expansion of energy communities and the strengthening of the active participation of households and companies in the energy market are also promoted. The importance of integrated infrastructure planning is emphasized in order to effectively link mobility and energy supply. In view of the extensive measures, quick implementations are required to ensure future -proof energy supply.
The national reform program, which will be presented to the Federal Council and the Bundestag in March, contains 41 measures with a total of 133 milestones and focuses on a climate -friendly and digital future, including strong investments in the water sector and energetic building renovation. This shows that the current reform efforts not only want to strive for short -term solutions, but also want to initiate long -term changes for the country. While these developments are pending, the federal government refers to the need to deal with the challenges such as high energy prices and shortage of skilled workers. This was last discussed in the 2024 annual economic report, which was already published at the end of February.
