The farmers raise the alarm: protests in Berlin for a better future!

On the evening of December 14, 2024, a 35-year-old man was victim of a robbery in the Grevenbrück district of Lennestadt. According to the district police authority Olpe, the incident passed around 10 p.m. when the two perpetrators who were sitting on a bench on the side of the path passed the man and stole his wallet. Then the strangers fled on foot towards Kölner Strasse. The perpetrators were described in the mid -20s, with a Southeast European accent. The police ask for information on 02761 / 9269-0. The prey was only in the double-digit euro area, but such attacks are alarming for the residents, as reports news.de.

farmers protest against austerity measures

At the same time as a predator in Grevenbrück, farmers from the district of Olpe are mobilizing their strength in Berlin against the federal government's savings plans. Under the motto "No further", around 2,000 farmers gathered in front of the Brandenburg Gate to draw attention to the massive financial burdens that threaten the planned tax increases and withdrawal of subsidies. Hubertus Beringmeier, President of the Westphalian-Lippische Agricultural Association (WLV), made it clear: "We are ready to talk, but we are calling for solutions. A 'Next to it' will not exist with us", as the Sauerland courier explained. The average diesel consumption of the companies is between 110 and 120 liters per hectare and year, which, due to the increasing costs for agrardiesel, means considerable additional loads for farmers. The solidarity of the population is partly noticeable when large convoys drive through the district of Olpe.

The responsibility of the Federal Government now lies how it reacts to the demands of farmers and whether it initiates serious discussions about relief. These protest days and the robbery in Grevenbrück also make a light light on two sides of the medal: the security concerns of the population and the tense financial conditions of agriculture.

Further details on the protests can be found in the detailed report from Sauerlandkurier and for the robbery of News.de .
