Germany parks gas heaters - this is how the heat supply becomes new!
Germany pursues ambitious plans to reduce CO₂ emissions and strives to become climate-neutral by 2045. The central measures are the exit from gas heating and the introduction of renewable energies in the heating sector. From January 1, 2024, new buildings may only be installed in new buildings that cover at least 65% of their heat requirements from renewable sources. This requirement is part of the novella of the building energy network (opposite), as the Federal Government
Clear transitional periods apply to existing buildings: From 2029, existing gas heating must be gradually switched to renewable energies. The aim is to completely do without fossil heating by 2045. In large cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, this regulation will be effective from June 30, 2026 and in cities with up to 100,000 inhabitants from June 30, 2028. The Measures also stipulate that municipal heat planning should be completed by 2028.
Financial support and advice
The state offers various funding opportunities for homeowners and tenants. Up to 70% of the costs for new heat pumps can be covered by grants. Households with low income also receive an income bonus. Tenants are encouraged to talk to their landlords about planned heating system changes. Advice on energy supply is recommended, whereby the federal government pays up to 50% of the costs.heat pumps, biomass heating, solar thermal systems or the connection to heating networks are recommended alternatives to gas heating. The law also promotes hybrid solutions in which fossil heating can be combined with renewable technologies. Before installing new heating systems with fossil fuels, advice from specialist staff is also mandatory.
