Federal government strengthens climate warnings: new strategy for extreme weather!
Oberhausen, Deutschland - The federal government has presented a new climate adaptation strategy that aims to better warn the population of extreme weather events. This strategy includes measurable and binding goals for adapting to the events that are increasingly caused by climate change such as heat, drought, heavy rain and floods.
Environment Minister Steffi Lemke described the plan as "introduction to a dynamic climate adaptation management". A central element of the strategy is the expansion of the Warn app Nina, which was developed after the flood disaster in Ahrtal 2021. The range of warning systems is to be increased in extreme weather events by 2030. In addition, cities are to be designed greener to offer the population protection against extreme heat. The plan stipulates that green spaces are reached in terms of walking to living and work, which should become mandatory for cities with more than 10,000 inhabitants by 2030.
water management and agriculture
Water management is considered crucial for adaptation to the climate crisis. The use of the available amount of water should not be more than 20 percent over a longer period of time, with drinking water supply has a top priority. The income from farmers should also not fluctuate more than before by 2030 and until 2050. By 2030, 80 percent of the legally obliged municipalities have to present climate adaptation concepts.
The German adaptation strategy 2024 for the first time in Germany determines measurable goals for climate adjustment. In total, the strategy includes 34 destinations and 53 sub -goals, which are largely to be reached by 2030 by 2050. These goals are classified in seven clusters, which include infrastructure, water, human health and urban development. The strategy does not provide for any additional bureaucratic burdens or reports for citizens or companies.
The Federal Office for Population Protection (BBK) also appealed to the citizens to prepare for emergencies and to consider provided information on self -sufficiency in households. The implementation and achievement of the set goals are measured using indicators that include the recovery of natural flooding areas and the size of re -wireless moor areas.
