Number of bankruptcies in Lower Austria sinks: hope or intermediate high?

In the first quarter of 2025 there was a slight decline in the bankruptcies in Lower Austria. According to the latest projections of the Credit Protection Association in 1870 (KSV), a leading economic platform in Austria, a total of 1,741 companies all over Austria reported bankruptcy, which corresponds to an average of 19 bankruptcies per day. The KSV expects between 6,500 and 7,000 corporate bankruptcies for the current year. However, there is a glimmer of hope for Lower Austria, because the number of company bankruptcies has dropped by 1.3 percent to 295 cases. This was cited by the Lower Austrian Business Press Service, which evaluated the KSV data, even if almost half of the bankruptcies there did not even lead to the opening of insolvency proceedings due to the lack of financial resources, such as oe24.at reported.

The industries are particularly affected by the bankruptcies, the trade, construction industry as well as accommodation and gastronomy. At the same time, the volume of the liabilities decreased by an impressive 56.4 percent to 112 million euros. However, the question remains whether this decline is only a temporary phenomenon or whether sustainable relaxation in the development of corporate insolvencies in Lower Austria is actually evident. According to meinzirk.at , the statistics indicate that there is still space for optimism, but while the challenges for many companies still exist.

Overall, the KSV will continue to observe the development of corporate insolvencies in the course of the year in order to be able to submit precise forecasts about the economic situation of companies in Austria.
