Price increase in wholesale: watches, coffee and drinks now more expensive!
Significant increase in prices in wholesale at the beginning of the year! The numbers are alarming and show a massive increase in different product categories. According to krone.at the prices for watches and jewelry have risen by a whopping 17.5 percent. Even with coffee, tea and spices, consumers have to expect an increase of 12.9 percent. Drinks without alcohol have an increase of eleven percent.
The increase in wholesale prices cannot be overlooked. "Other mineral oil products" have become 8.4 percent more expensive, and fruit, vegetables and potatoes have also increased by 5.3 percent. In the area of engine petrol and diesel, one would have to expect an additional 5.1 percent increase. Nevertheless, there is also positive news: technical chemicals and solid fuels have become 15.2 percent and 15 percent cheaper. These are significant developments that indicate the different price dynamics in the respective industries.
price increases due to CO₂ tax increases
These price fluctuations are partly due to the adjustments of some companies at the turn of the year. In addition, the CO₂ tax was increased at the beginning of the year, which results in further price increases. According to statistics Austria, wholesale prices rose by 1.5 percent compared to December 2024 and also recorded an increase of 1.3 percent from January to February 2025. Compared to the inflation of 3.3 percent in January, this is a disturbing trend, as statistics Austria General Director Tobias Thomas emphasizes.
In addition, the question arises how consumers deal with these new price structures. A simple and effective way to calculate price changes and their effects is the use of online tools such as the flash calculator that helps to quickly understand and calculate percentage changes. In this way, consumers can understand exactly how price changes affect their wallet.
