Lower Austria's green light: Windpark Andlersdorf II brings 16,000 households to the network!
Andlersdorf, Österreich - The Lower Austrian state government approved the expansion of the Andlersdorf wind farm on April 1, 2025. In a unanimous decision, supported by the parties ÖVP, FPÖ and SPÖ, three new wind turbines are to be built, which will generate electricity for around 16,000 households. With this measure, renewable energy generation in Lower Austria is expanded by 20.4 megawatts, which represents another significant step towards climate protection. OTS reports that the CO2 emissions in the region should be reduced.
Lower Austria has established itself as a pioneer in the use of renewable energies. With the highest proportion of green electricity and the largest decline in CO2 emissions in Austria, the region is a model for sustainable energy policy. CO2 emissions have dropped by 37 percent since 2005, while the economy has grown by 29 percent at the same time. According to official information, around 50,000 people work in so -called green jobs in Lower Austria.
Technical details of the new wind turbines
The new wind turbines in the Andlersdorf wind farm are operated by imwind Ernervenbaren Energie GmbH. An environmental impact assessment (RRP) has already concluded positively. The following wind turbines are planned:
performance (MW) Th> | rotor diameter (m) | hub height (m) Th> | |
---|---|---|---|
vestas V172 | 7.2 | 172 | 175 |
vestas v162 | 7.2 | 162 | 169 |
Vestas V150 | 6.0 | 150 | 169 |
In addition, the project includes the construction of cable lines, access routes, crane spaces and other infrastructure measures. The commissioning of the new wind turbines will be connected to the completion of the German Wagram substation, which will play an important role in the energy distribution.
context and meaning of renewable energies
The importance of renewable energies for Austria should not be underestimated. According to information from the BMK they contribute to avoiding millions of tons of CO2-equivalent. The absolute contribution of renewable energy sources has increased in recent years, even if there were declines in relation to the EU guidelines. The economic effect of these energies is also noticeable, with a primary total turnover in the area of renewable technologies of several billion euros and over 40,000 jobs in the corresponding industries. The regional value creations also increase national self -sufficiency and minimize the dependence on fossil fuels.
Overall, the approval of the Andlersdorf wind farm shows how seriously the Lower Austrian state government takes the energy transition and what steps are taken to achieve the climate goals and at the same time promote economic growth.
