Apprentice's event in the Danube Center: Experience the future of technology up close!
In the Danube Center in Vienna there is currently a large apprentice event, which will be organized for the third time in a row. The aim of this event is to network young people and potential employers. The shortage of skilled workers is noticeable in numerous industries, while many young people are looking for training positions. Peter Mertens, WKW guild master of the mechatronics engineers, said that the rush and interest in the event are overwhelming every time. Over 1,500 pupils have the opportunity to discover professions such as metal technology, mechatronics and vehicle technology at 17 stations, whereby special emphasis is attached to also inspiring girls for technical professions. According to Mertens, it is a success if in classrooms instead of the common three girls at least seven.
technology in focus: professions with future
The event, which will take place in the Westfield Donau Center from February 20 to 24, 2024, takes place under the motto "Technician: Inside tomorrow" and aims to be interested in both boys and girls for the technical professions. Maria Smodics-Neumann, division of the business and craft division of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce, emphasized how important it is to give young people an insight into the professions. Among other things, the event offers numerous practical stations where those interested can try out whether these professions are something for them. In addition, a 2.5-meter AI-based robot will cause a stir to make the technology tangible. The 235 apprentices who want to train the Vienna Stadtwerke in 20 appointments are also hoping for a job in these areas.
The Viennese companies are currently training 14,796 apprentices, including 348 metal technicians and 291 mechatronics engineers. However, the proportion of women in these professions remains modest-only about 15 percent of the metal technology apprentices are female. The targeted approach and support for future trainees is all the more important. Companies can network directly with potential apprentices, which facilitates the search for an apprenticeship. The need for specialists is unbroken in the Vienna Economy, as the approximately 2,600 vacancies shown at the AMS Vienna show, as well as the reports of Krone and WKO .
