Shanghai Electric: strong commitment to protect the biodiversity!

Kunming, China - On May 22nd, Shanghai Electric celebrated the international day of biological diversity 2025. The company, which is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (Sehk: 2727) and at the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE: 601727), presented his engagement for environmental protection and the promotion of biological diversity. The focus is on the motto: "Harmony with nature and sustainable development". To achieve this, Shanghai Electric integrates environmental protection measures into the entire development cycle of its projects.

The commitment of Shanghai Electric received special attention in various international projects. In Dubai, for example, an ecological system for the protection of biodiversity was set up as part of a solar thermal project. In Romania the photovoltaic project Skurtu protects local forests and also supplies 48,000 households with sustainable green electricity. This leads to a reduction in the annual quantity of carbon dioxide by 4.150 tons.

The company also carries out innovative projects in Turkey and Malaysia. Technologies with extremely low emissions are used in the Hunutlu thermal power plant in Türkiye. In addition, special protective measures for endangered species such as turtles were implemented during the construction process. In Malaysia, Shanghai Electric is also evident by participating in a beach cleaning campaign that is supposed to strengthen the local environment. The positive feedback from local authorities underline the commitment of Shanghai Electric for sustainability.

In the international context, the importance of biodiversity is increasingly recognized. Especially in China, where the concept of biodiversity, known as "Shengwu duoyangxing", is the focus of environmental policy. The 15th Conference of Conference (COP 15) of UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will be opened on October 11, 2021 in Kunming. This conference is intended to strengthen China's role as a responsible world power in questions of environmental protection and offers the platform to negotiate passionate about biodiversity agreements in order to promote global protection of biological diversity.

The promotion of biodiversity is not only prioritized at the national level. The state of biodiversity has deteriorated worldwide in recent decades. Global cooperation is essential to maintain the services that biodiversity for humanity provides. These range from the provision of food and climate regulation to clean air and water. Switzerland is actively involved in the implementation of biodiversity -relevant agreements both globally and regionally. The efforts focus on the implementation of the global biodiversity framework of Kunming, which was adopted in December 2022 at the UN Biodiversity Conference in Montreal.
