Trump tariffs: Those affected comment

London, CNN - Numerous trade states from the United States are preparing for August 1, the new key date for the imposition of punitive tariffs that they export to the United States. For months, these countries have been trying to negotiate trade agreements with the USA to avoid the so -called "mutual" tariffs that President Donald Trump announced in April. So far, only China, the United Kingdom and Vietnam, have achieved such agreements, the scope and final form of which vary.

reaction of the United States

On Monday, Trump increased the pressure and sent letters to the heads of government of 14 countries in which he informed them about the new customs tariffs - in some cases even higher than that announced in April. At the same time, he granted a short breathing space by postponing the implementation of the "mutual" tariffs for all countries except China from July 9 to August 1st

The opinion of South Africa

The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, criticized the "one-sided impression" of a new customs of 30 % on the US export goods in his country on Monday. In a Communication said Ramaphosa that the "mutual" customs are not based on a precise representation of the available merchant data and pointed out that 77 % of the US goods exports to South Africa are not subject to tariffs at all.

"South Africa will continue to do diplomatic efforts to achieve a more balanced and mutual trade relationship with the United States," Ramaphosa continued and added that his country had proposed a framework for a trade agreement on May 20th.

"This framed deal deals with the topics originally mentioned by the USA, including the alleged trade surplus of South Africa, unfair trade practices and the lack of mutuality of the United States," said Ramaphosa.

South Korea's trade strategy

South Korea has announced that the trade negotiations with the USA intensify before August 1st. Trump has threatened to raise a customs of 25 % to South Korean goods on this date. The customs tariffs could "be adapted upwards or down," said the letters that he published on his Truth Social platform.

The South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said that the country was aiming to "accelerate the negotiations in order to quickly eliminate the results of everyone involved at the end of the year and to quickly eliminate the uncertainties caused by the tariffs". One will also address the trade surplus with the USA and try "to make a leap forward by a partnership to revive the production between the two countries".

The Ministry has been there since the formation of the South Koreas in early June and presented with the USA and provided stated that "in reality there was not enough time to reach an agreement on all topics".
