Tyrol helps Ukrainian children: hope in times of crisis!
Innsbruck, Österreich - On February 24, 2022, Russia's attack began to take a cruel war that continues to this day and has demanded countless fatalities. Tyrol is actively involved in the support of refugees and has already put together auxiliary packages at the beginning of the conflict. In the past three years, around 4,000 people have also come to Tyrol from Ukraine, including around 1,000 children and adolescents. According to current reports, 600 of these children attend a school in Tyrol and almost 150 are housed in early childhood educational institutions. Summer camps were also organized, in which over 100 children already took part. Walter Peer, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Innsbruck, emphasized that solidarity in Tyrol not only promises to be promised, but also actively lived, which gives the refugee hope. This is also supported by Landtag President Sonja Ledl-Rossmann, who described the attack on Ukraine as a threat to European values, while Bishop Hermann Glettler held a memorial service to commemorate the victim.
The situation of the children in focus
The situation in Ukraine remains alarming, especially for children and adolescents who are exposed to enormous loads. Christian Schneider, Managing Director of Unicef Germany, drawn attention to the cruel conditions under which millions of Ukrainian children live. They see each other away, constant rocket attacks and losses and their everyday environment, including schools and hospitals, are destroyed. Schneider demands that education and social protection systems should be the focus of all reconstruction measures for these young people. The support for these children is not only a moral duty, but also crucial for the future stability of Ukraine on their way to EU membership. These children who need our support can one day the new citizens and designers of society, it is all the more important to offer them security and perspectives, such as Unicef reported.
