Refurbishment of the Carlo Schmid secondary school: important step for Spandau!
On September 26, 2024, a significant step in the school building offensive in Berlin was taken in Spandau. The project agreement for the renovation of the Carlo Schmid Higher School was made by district councilor Dr. Carola Brückner and Jens Wadle, the authorized representative of the Howoge Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH. The planned work not only includes the renovation of the existing four -storey building, but also the construction of a new addition. The aim is to expand the school as an integrated secondary school and to create space for up to 900 students.
The school building offensive aims to improve the infrastructural conditions for school education. In the run -up to the signing, extensive analyzes and programs were created that were developed in cooperation with the school community. This preparatory work is crucial to determine the actual need and to develop a suitable planning, which is now being specified with the agreement. The next step is to tender for planning services for the renovation and the new buildings.
challenges and solution strategies
The renovation brings with it some challenges. The existing buildings currently leave little light inside, which is not ideal for the learning climate of the students. In addition, the provision of interim buildings during the construction phase will be a considerable logistical challenge. Jens Wadle emphasized the need for sustainable and resource -saving solutions for these problems. "We are pleased to continue to promote the planning in close cooperation with the school community and the Senate Department for Education," he said.
With a clear time frame in mind, the project stipulates that the planning should be completed within the next two years in order to receive a building permit. Construction is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, while the completion of the total measure will be sought by the end of 2031. This long project lead shows how intensively was working on the design and planning in order to create the best possible framework conditions for the students.
Dr. Carola Brückner also commented positively about progress: "The school community has been looking forward to this day. The signing of the project agreement is an important milestone to achieve our common goals. I am pleased that we have won a competent partner for this comprehensive construction project with the Howog."
The signed agreement not only regulates the responsibilities between the Howoge and the State of Berlin, but also serves as a contractual basis for future rental and heritage law contracts. The planning will continue in the coming months so that the building application can be submitted as the next step. This represents a crucial step in the support of the educational institutions in Berlin in order to adapt the architectural and functional standards of modern needs.
