Government negotiations: ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS face new challenges!
The talks between the ÖVP, SPÖ and Neos on a possible triple coalition continue after a meeting with Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen was originally planned for Friday, but could not take place. The trio announced in a joint broadcast that they will continue their negotiations on Saturday after the talks have been "intensive" in the past few days. The party leader Christian Stocker (ÖVP), Andreas Babler (SPÖ) and Beate Meinl-Reisinger (NEOS) were forced to communicate the results in the evening after the unofficial negotiations had already delayed several times, as meinbezirk.at reported.
In view of the great need for consolidation in the case of a forecast budget deficit of around 3.9 percent of GDP, the formation of a new government becomes a challenge. In particular, the distribution of department is up to the debate: According to media reports, the NEOS want to take over two ministries, education and foreign policy, while the ÖVP is striving for central ministries such as the Chancellery, the Interior and Defense. The SPÖ is interested in finances, social issues and infrastructure. However, all parties have to create different differences from the world before a coalition agreement can be signed, as reported by vienna.atcriticism and resistance
