Nienburg celebrates with 1000 trees: together for a green city climate!

Nienburg/Weser, Deutschland - An ambitious and green destination is pursued in Nienburg: As part of the project '1000 years - 1000 trees', a total of 1,000 new trees are to be planted in the urban area by the end of 2025. This initiative not only celebrates the anniversary of the city, but also hits the nerve of the time with regard to climate protection and quality of life. According to information from nienburg.de, the city actively supports the project by offering urban employees and building yard. The diverse advantages of city trees range from storing carbon dioxide to the improvement of air quality to the creation of shade -giving recreational areas.

The local population is actively called for help; Every Nienburger has the opportunity to plant trees on their own property. As a small recognition, there is a certificate and a badge for every tree planted. To facilitate the selection of the tree species, the city provides a planting list with many suitable species. You can choose between the various fruit and deciduous trees, whereby it should be taken into account that the plants reach a certain scope of the trunk, as stated in the urban directive. So far, the first trees have already been successfully planted.

challenges from climate change

But the city tree campaign is only part of a larger topic: climate change presents the municipalities with enormous challenges that also affect the health of the city trees. According to CityTreesuit.de , drought stress and a higher susceptibility to diseases and pests are now reality. In order to adapt to these challenges, a new selection tool for city tree species was developed. This tool supports municipalities in selecting more suitable tree species according to the climatic conditions in order to ensure the vitality of the city trees in the long term. The CityTreesuit project is part of the Grünelung bond project and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
