Child poverty in Germany: Alliance fights for changes!

Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, Deutschland - Combating child poverty in Germany remains an urgent challenge. After the failure of the basic security under the traffic light coalition, the Child basic protection , in which 20 organizations are united, for the upcoming legislative period. Verena Bentele, President of the VDK and re -elected spokeswoman for the alliance, disappointed over the failed legislative proposal and emphasized the urgency to actively combat child poverty. "Such a rich country as Germany must never accept growing up without good opportunities," says Bentele.

The situation is alarming: over three million children in Germany live in poverty or are at risk of poverty, as the vdk reports. A central proposal is the introduction of basic childcare that would have to act as a legal basis in order to enable all children the same opportunities and participation. Above all, a reduction in bureaucratic hurdles is required so that the necessary financial aid can be paid out quickly and easily to the families concerned. Services are to be bundled, automated and provided without elaborate applications so that parents receive a central point of contact for help.

The VDK emphasizes that the necessary financial means must be measured in such a way that they cover the livelihood of the children, especially with regard to current inflation -related developments. It is crucial that access to education and social activities is guaranteed to support children from disadvantaged conditions. With a fairer orientation of the basic child protection, single parents and disadvantaged families in particular are intended to provide more support. This project is therefore not just a purely economic matter, but a crucial step towards social justice in Germany.
