In Carinthia there is an important modernization offensive for the public libraries, which is to be implemented by 2030. Education officer State Councilor Daniel Fellner announced that the libraries should be transformed into contemporary well -being with a development concept. "Reading is the key to education and social participation. Our libraries have to become modern, inviting places of encounter and exchange," explains Fellner, as gailtal-journal.at . A central element is the qualitative and spatial redesign to make libraries more attractive for all age groups. Already 38 out of 48 libraries have received financial support through new funding guidelines in order to promote the training of the staff, the modernization of the media stock and the improvement of digital offers.

Financial support and programs

In the coming year 2024, the state of Carinthia will also provide 33,000 euros to strengthen the library association Carinthia (BVK) and thus the infrastructure of the 53 public and 204 school libraries. These funds are intended for personnel expenditure, administrative and office expenses as well as the financing of courses and events, as reported ktn.gv.at "Every investment in the educational infrastructure is an investment in the future," emphasizes Fellner, who highlights the importance of well -trained staff. "They are the heart of our libraries," he adds, underlining the sustainable character of the funding.

Another successful program is "Buchstart Carinthia" that supports parents in early childhood reading promotion. 4,000 book start vouchers have been distributed since 2023 to inspire children at an early stage for books. In addition to the further development of the content, the state of Carinthia is planning a comprehensive PR offensive for 2025 to make the offer of libraries more visible and to promote the expansion of digital services. "Libraries are the gateway to the world of knowledge. I will continue to work with full strength to ensure that they are equipped as best as possible and prepared for the future," concludes Fellner.
