Call of help from Afghanistan: Women suffer from Taliban rule!
The dramatic situation in Afghanistan remains the focus of the international community, especially in view of the brutal measures of the Taliban regime, which systematically suppresses women in their freedom and their rights. According to Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, the humanitarian situation is worrying - over half of the Afghan population urgently needs support. Austria has therefore decided to provide five million euros from the foreign catastrophic fund in order to enable people on site to make a decent existence and prevent illegal migration towards Europe. Among other things, this sum is distributed to UN Women, the UNHCR and the International Committee from the Red Cross to specifically protect women and girls and to provide humanitarian aid, as on ots.at reported.
EU makes it clear: Afghan women are entitled to asylum
At the same time, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) strengthened the protective mechanisms for Afghan women in the EU. The judges decided that the grotesque oppression and persecution, which are exposed to women in Afghanistan, must be seen as a systematic persecution. This means that Afghan women are generally entitled to asylum in the EU. This applies in particular to the widespread discrimination, the refusal of education and the danger from forced marriages, which are recognized as reasons for asylum, as Tagesschau.de The ECJ emphasizes that the individual situation of a woman in Afghanistan no longer has to be viewed decisively in the case of asylum applications. It is sufficient that it is female and has Afghan citizenship to be recognized as a refugee.
The clear decision of the ECJ signals a turning point in the treatment of asylum applications of Afghan women, which strengthens the legal framework within Europe. The possibility that women, regardless of their personal life situation, are recognized as refugees could affect potential applications throughout the EU and significantly improve protection for these vulnerable groups.
