Help for Tello: How sister Ingeborg children give children a future!

In the middle of the idyllic backdrop of Pulau Tello, an Indonesian island, 80-year-old Franciscan nurse Ingeborg fights against the overwhelming poverty. Despite breathtaking landscapes, the approximately 28,000 residents live in extreme conditions. The support from her home town of Christazhofen plays a crucial role. Sister Ingeborg has already changed many lives with projects such as a polyclinic, a kindergarten and a sewing school. The Christafhofener working group around Angela Hartmann reports on the need for this help, since people often have hardly any money for school uniforms, which makes school visit impossible for children, especially for girls, such as reporting the Schwäbische Zeitung impressively describes.

support from home

from Christazhofen is provided with a considerable sum of around 15,000 euros annually to promote educational opportunities on the remote island. The funds come from the star singing campaign and other charity events organized by committed parishioners. These investments are of great importance, since the living conditions on the island are extremely challenging - many mothers are single parent, and the fishing grounds that once contributed to the livelihood are strongly overfished. "People earn again worse than 20 years ago," reports Hartmann, explaining that not only food supply, but also medical care is severely restricted, especially for women and children, such as the All-in Zeitung informed.

The help is urgently needed, because in many cases people have to pay for medical treatments, which often leads to tragic abuses. Nevertheless, there is hope through the excellent training of young people on the island, who pursue their dream in view of the adverse circumstances. Sister Ingeborg worked tirelessly for the community, and the support of her home community remains essential for the ongoing projects. The continuing effort to improve living conditions through education and practical help are of outstanding importance for the future of the islanders.
