Education innovation: 28 doctoral requests for future -oriented research!

Educational research in Austria is experiencing an upswing: by the end of January, 28 innovative applications for cooperative doctoralate programs at the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF). These initiatives, led by ten public universities and twelve educational universities, strive for a funding of 4 million euros, such as OTS reported. The aim is to intensify scientific research in areas such as artificial intelligence and MINT issues (mathematics, computer science, natural science and technology) and at the same time to promote young scientists.

Most projects submitted focus on the topics of “AI and digitization” and “MINT”. In total, these are mentioned 24 times in the 28 applications. Minister Martin Polaschek underlined how important it is that schools deal with the digital future skills and the use of digital end devices is efficiently examined. In addition to these current priorities, developmental disorders, abortion and linguistic education are also discussed, for which specific doctorate projects are provided. These priorities offer space for important research topics that are assessed by international experts within the next few months before the final selection of programs is made in summer.

linking of the doctoral programs

This new tender is already the second in the context of education research and ties in with great interest in the previous projects, which were funded in 2023 with a total of 8 million euros. The doctoral programs are aimed at transdisciplinary training, which includes interdisciplinary elements and special courses for the doctoral students, as the University of Graz explained in its report on doctoral programs. Here the participants benefit from an over -faculty and research -oriented training that is optimally tailored to the challenges of educational research and thus promotes the interest of young scientists.
