Education is the right of every child: a call to act on the world day of human rights!
Vishakhapatnam, Indien - On December 10th, the World Day of Human Rights will be celebrated, and it is a crucial moment to draw attention to the right to education. Despite international attention, 251 million children worldwide are without schooling, and 650 million are leaving their training without a degree. These alarming numbers were published in the UNESCO World Education Report. Reinhard Heierer, Managing Director of the Austrian Development Organization Youth, explained that, especially in the countries of the global south, many children have no access to basic schooling. "Education is a human right and every child has a right to education!" Emphasized Heiererer and demands both support and donations to implement school projects in emergency regions in order to give disadvantaged children a chance of a better life, such as OTS
Education as a key to overcoming poverty
Heiererer, who recently visited educational projects in India, spoke about the different programs that range from afternoon lessons for children in poor quarters to vocational training centers. Many of these children come from families whose parents have to work under enormous pressure in order to make ends meet financially. "The opportunity to learn to read, write and arithmetic gives the children the chance of a better life," said Heiererer, referring to the initiatives such as "Beach Blossom", which offer children from socially disadvantaged families the necessary preparation for school visit, which has benefited over 1,000 children in the past 20 years.
What young people often meet at school is stress and pressure to perform. According to a survey, 68 percent of 14- to 21-year-olds experienced these negative aspects in everyday school life, although 57 percent believed that they have learned useful knowledge. This mixed record reveals the challenges with which students are confronted. Likewise, a large part of the students do not feel able to actively participate in the design of their school, which indicates major deficits in the education system. This was shown by the bpb that should be more than just learning locations.
