Ampel government loses soil: FPÖ remains the top of the survey!

The political landscape in Austria currently shows remarkable changes. Since the formation of the current government of the ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS in March, the advance of trust has decreased. According to the latest survey by the Lazarsfeld Institute, in which 2,000 people took part, the coalition only receives 50 percent of the vote, which is a decrease of five percentage points compared to its original level of trust of 55 percent. Despite this decline, the coalition would continue to receive 98 out of 183 mandates in parliament in a new hypothetical election, such as oe24.at.

The decline in the ÖVP, which fell one percentage point to 21 percent by one percentage point, fell behind the SPÖ, which remains stable at 21 percent. The NEOs can record 9 percent of the votes while the Greens overtaken with 10 percent. The FPÖ, however, remains at 34 percent at the top of the survey and shows significant strength that consolidates its position in national politics.

Current survey values and political leadership

The current election trend suggests that the FPÖ is at 33.4 percent, followed by the ÖVP with 21.4 percent and the SPÖ with 21.2 percent. The NEOs are 9.4 percent and the Greens at 9.1 percent, while the KPÖ was 2.6 percent at the lower end and would miss the move into parliament. These numbers are also reflected in the overall expected distribution of seats. A new government would need a majority of 92 votes in parliament.

  • FPÖ: 65 MPs
  • ÖVP: 42 MPs
  • SPÖ: 41 MPs
  • neos: 18 MPs
  • Greens: 17 MPs
  • KPÖ: 3 MPs

In the fictional chancellor's question, the FPÖ boss Herbert Kickl leads with 25 percent, while ÖVP chairman Christian Stocker and SPÖ chairman Andreas Babler are both 13 percent. Beate Meinl-Reisinger from the Neos can record 8 percent and Werner Kogler from the Greens 6 percent. These results illustrate the changing political dynamics in Austria and the growing relevance of the FPÖ.

political orientation of the parties

The different political points of view of the parties become clear in a graphic published by the University of North Carolina. This shows that the left parties strive for a more active role of the state through taxes, regulations and redistribution, while the right parties are less state regulation. According to PolitPro.eu, however, the positions of the parties can change over time.

The current political leadership is represented by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Christian Stocker. In the next National Council election, which is expected to take place in 2029, the political situation may be further influenced by the current changes in voter behavior.
