Students in Austria demand more support from politics!

The social debate in Austria about the compatibility of study and work absorbs speed! Philipp Stadler-Simger, President of the Austrian Cartell Association (ÖCV), emphasizes in a passionate appeal that the needs of students in the political agenda must no longer be ignored. Under the motto "Study & job? - Well & whether!" If he demands that politics urgently have to take measures to relieve students. Currently, a total of 69 percent of students work in addition to studying to either gain professional experience or finance their tuition fees, but many rules and regulations make this balancing act considerably more difficult. The applicable regulations, such as tuition fees and tolerance semester, do not consider the requirements that arise from a job or volunteer work.

In order to cope with these challenges, the ÖCV has initiated a referendum that includes four central demands: the introduction of several tolerance semesters for professionals and volunteers, an adaptation of the relaxation limit of family allowance, reduced tax levels for working students as well as the provision of flexible courses through streaming and alternative seminar times. "Politicians can immediately take measures with a little common sense that relieve the students in Austria," says Stadler Simger. The relevance of these claims is also underpinned by the facts of the Bundestag documentation, which illuminates the financial difficulties of students and shows how important an adaptation of the regulations is to reduce the financial burden of young people.

important measures required

In order to meet the current challenges and to secure adequate support to the students, immediate political measures are required. This confirms the problem presented by numerous university graduates who, due to excessive financial burden and inadequate support from the state, are almost in the compulsory to juggle between studying, job and personal obligations. Information and details can be found, among other things, in a recently published document of the Bundestag, which emphasizes the urgency of the topic. According to this source, structured changes are necessary to meet the requirements of a modern educational landscape and enable students to study successful without putting them under financial pressure.
