Fight for better childcare: municipalities under pressure!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - In Upper Austria, the situation of children's education and care is becoming increasingly pressing. AK President Andreas Stangl demands a massive expansion of the offers and a legal entitlement to free children's education from the age of second to offer all families real freedom of choice. The current Childcare atlas , which has been investigating the quality of childcare in the communities for 25 years, shows alarming abuses. Of the 338 municipalities in Upper Austria, 100 have not participated in the transparency of the data. Only 40.9 percent of the municipalities meet the best criteria with regard to the providers and their opening times, which makes it considerably more difficult for the compatibility of work and family.
The small number of full-time care facilities is particularly sobering: only 6.4 percent of the under-three year olds and 37.1 percent of three to six-year-olds have access to institutions that correspond to the vif criteria (compatibility indicator for family and work). This is directly related to the high part -time rate of over 60 percent in women in the region. The data impressively demonstrates that the existing offers do not meet the flexible working hours of the parents and that many cannot make the decision about their working hours freely, so apa.atchildcare in the crisis
Financial support for childcare facilities remains inadequate. The care in Krabbelstuben has been free of charge since September 1, but day parents and "children's sests" are excluded from what discussions about dismissal and club trials. The Chamber of Labor therefore calls for a free system for all children and ensuring the offers. The calls for a legal right to high -quality care and the withdrawal of parental contributions in afternoon care are getting louder. The shortcomings in childcare endanger the implementation of the Barcelona goals set by the EU, which require a high quality and affordable childcare offer.
The childcare atlas 2.0 not only offers an in -depth analysis of the situation in the communities, but also the possibility of making information about available care facilities, including their opening times. Information on this can be found on the website of the Chamber of Labor. The continuous recording and publication of such data is considered crucial to implement and promote the necessary improvements in the system of childcare.
