Dominik Schwaiger says Adieu: A ski star ends his career!
Königssee, Deutschland - The 33-year-old Dominik Schwaiger has ended his exciting career in skiing! On Thursday, the talented athlete announced his decision on his Instagram account after he had been racing for years for WSV Königssee. With an emotional post, the former ski racer said goodbye and explained that persistent back problems, which have not gotten better despite various treatments, led him to take this difficult step. "It's time to say goodbye," wrote Schwaiger, who looks back on an impressive career with 116 World Cup starts, including at the Olympic Games and two skiing championships, such as Sportschau.de reported.
Schwaiger, whose best result was the fourth place at the parallel giant slalom in Alta Badia and fifth place in the 2021 departure in Bormio, celebrated his 2011 World Cup debut in Sölden. In his emotional farewell statement, the speed specialist thanked all those who made this "wild journey" possible for him. "To be able to turn my passion into a profession was a dream that came true - which taught me more than just skiing," said the German. Schwaiger will continue to be connected to skiing and was looking forward to everything "what awaits him in his new phase of life", as well as laola1.at noted. Despite the career closing, the passion for skiing remains a central part of his life.
