Zellerndorf celebrates construction for modern flood protection!

A clear sign of more security: In Zellerndorf, construction was celebrated for urgently needed flood protection after this project was planning over a decade. Mayor Markus Baier and other local representatives, including Stephan Pernkopf, the deputy governor, met at the scene to give the official starting shot. According to his words, this day is a reason for the community to be happy: "Today is a day of joy - Christmas and Easter at the same time! Every cloud of thunderstorms has worried me in recent years. Now we can finally breathe a sigh of relief," says the mayor, like MeinDZIRD reported.

The flood protection is realized by the construction of a dam, retention surfaces and optimized drainage regulations, which should help prevent larger flood damage. The crowd is expanded over a distance of 1.1 kilometers and a width of 14 meters, the new retention room can absorb up to 410,000 cubic meters of water. With a 525 -meter -long dam, not only the cellar village, but also the adjacent communities of Haugsdorf, Alberndorf and Hadres is protected. The total costs of the project amount to 4.8 million euros, and it is expected that it can also regulate floods of the HQ100 level, as from Noen reported.

extensive security measures

Three central measures form the retention design: the previously created Watzelsdorf See in 2013, followed by a retention basin for the Sulzbach in 2023, and now the new flood protection embankment. With this comprehensive strategy, the region should not only be protected at short notice, but also sustainably improve the quality of life of the residents by checking future flood events. "This project receives flood protection that corresponds to today's security standards," added Pernkopf. The residents of Zellerndorf can therefore look forward to a new era of security, while the work should be completed in 2025.
