The managing director of Porta-Holding, Paul de Jong, emphasizes the need for strong partnerships in the competitive environment, especially in the online furniture trade. Mayor Anke Grotjohann regretted the sale because it is a traditional company and expressed concerns about the financial effects on the city. The construction of a new kindergarten in Barkhausen, promised by the owner families, remains unaffected by the takeover.

The Porta Group was founded in 1965 and recently achieved annual turnover of 1.34 billion euros. It employs more than 7,000 employees and comprises 26 porta furniture stores, two kitchen worlds, around 100 furniture boss discounter branches as well as 22 ASKO furnishing houses in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. XXXLutz, on the other hand, has over 370 furniture stores in 14 European countries and generated sales of six billion euros in 2024, while it employs more than 27,000 employees, such as reported.
