Wind power offensive in Schleswig-Holstein: record numbers for 2024!

In 2024, all previous records will break in the wind power sector in Germany! By mid -December, around 2,000 new wind turbines were approved, which together reach an impressive performance of around 11.3 gigawatts. This remarkable development is a result of successful legal reforms of the traffic light government, which accelerated the approval procedures, according to the President of the Federal Association of Wind Energy, Bärbel Heidebroek. Compared to the previous year, the permits nationwide rose by a whopping 48 percent. Especially North Rhine-Westphalia with over 3.4 gigawatts is ahead, while Schleswig-Holstein was still behind the previous year with a minus of about 18 percent, reported ndr .

The wind industry is also optimistic in Schleswig-Holstein. By November 2024, 102 new wind turbines with a total output of 527 megawatts were put into operation. The managing director of the regional association of renewable energies, Marcus Hrach, emphasized that continuous expansion would continue to be necessary to achieve the goal of 15 gigawatt by 2030. To ensure this, sufficient areas must be provided so that the permits do not stall, such as stern

challenges and future outlook

Despite the high number of approval, there are challenges in building the wind turbines. Often ailing streets and delivery bottlenecks are caused by important components for delays. However, it is crucial that these permits are quickly converted into the construction of operating capacities in order not only to reach the climate goals on paper, but also in reality. Jürgen Quentin from the Wind and Solar specialist agency remains optimistic: With the current pace of approval, the Federal Government's expansion goals could be quite realistic for 2028 and 2030.
