Vienna invests in gigantic drinking water memory for hot summer days!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - World Water Day on March 22nd puts the importance of water supply to the fore and emphasizes how crucial building materials such as concrete are. Austria, one of the most water -rich countries in Europe, faces challenges through climate change and extreme weather conditions. According to information from beton-Dialog.at, it turns out that 42 million liters of drinking water on the Wienerberg are certainly stored in robust concrete containers. These were modernized in 2010 and increased their capacity from 30,000 to 41,500 cubic meters in order to cover the increasing need due to population growth in Vienna.
The role of concrete in water supply
concrete plays an indispensable role in water management by helping as a durable and stable building material to guide and store drinking water. "Concrete is a pressure and weatherproof building material that is particularly resistant to contaminants," explains Anton Glasmaier, CEO of Beton Dialog Austria. In Vienna, for example, 31 waterproof concrete containers initiated a total of 1.6 million cubic meters of drinking water and make the city more resistant to the more common heat waves caused by climate change, according to ots.at.
resilient infrastructures are increasingly necessary, since the water requirement in Austria could increase by about 15 percent by 2050. The water management association northern Burgenland plans to invest 400 million euros in the drinking water supply in the next ten years. The new "Badener Berg II" elevator in Lower Austria, which is twice as large as the old high tank and thus the increasing requirements, is twice as large with a storage volume of 6,000 cubic meters. The construction and maintenance of these systems shows how important a sustainable water supply is for the future.
