Water for life: Caritas secures the future in drought!

Innsbruck, Österreich - Innsbruck, March 19, 2025 - The Caritas of the Diocese of Innsbruck has been against hunger in the world for over 50 years and is now starting a new impressive fundraiser for the global south. Thanks to the “Water Zum Life” initiative of the Bishop Stecher Memorial Association, a sum of 56,000 euros was collected, which will finance the construction of five new wells and irrigation systems in West Africa. As the Caritas reports , these auxiliary measures in five villages are secured by survival and their future improves.

In the past 15 years, the “Water Zum Life” campaign has already generated around 1.4 million euros by selling water aquaes by the late bishop Reinhold Stecher. These amounts flowed into numerous fountain construction projects and nutritional programs in one of the poorest regions in the world. Peter Jungmann, the club chairman, emphasizes the urgency of the situation: "The worldwide climate crisis mainly affects the poorest. Heat waves and drought time threaten the livelihood of many people." In keeping with this, the upcoming World Water Day on March 22nd is under the motto "Water for Peace", which underlines the importance of water as a fundamental one.
