Expensive times for drivers: Vignette and CO2 tax increase 2025!

From 2025 it will be noticeably more expensive for drivers in Austria: the motorway vignette, which is currently available in the color of the sea green, will increase by 7.7 percent to EUR 103.80. Asfinag has now announced this. All income from vignette sales flow into the company, the construction and maintenance of the extensive Austrian motorway and expressway network, which includes over 2,265 kilometers, reported OE24.at.

In addition to increasing the vignette, the CO2 tax also increases from 45 euros to 55 euros per ton from January 2025, which will affect the gasoline price. In addition, the standard consumption tax (Nova) is increased, whereby the engine -related insurance tax (MVST) increases by around 35 euros annually for almost all new registrations. The climate king is also more expensive: from January 1, 2025, an annual ticket will cost 1,179.30 euros, which corresponds to an increase of 7.7 percent, as reported by the Verkehrswirtschaft.at.

Although the motorway vignette becomes more expensive, the price for the Vignette remains stable in 2024. From December 1, 2023, the new adhesive vignette will be available in the color of sun-yellow, which replaces the current purple color. This vignette can be purchased at 6000 sales outlets, both at home and abroad. The following also applies here: it is valid for 14 months from December 1 to January 31 of the following year.
