Swimming emergency in Lüneburg: District policy demands a new sports pool!
In the district of Lüneburg it is bubbling: a blatant lack of capacity for swimming hours causes heated discussions in the district council. In a uniform advance, the groups FDP, independent, SPD and Greens are calling for a feasibility study to build a new sports pool or to expand existing swimming pools. For the necessary study, 50,000 euros are to be planned in the 2025 budget, such as the Landeszeitung reported. However, this initiative is sharply rejected by District Administrator Jens Böther (CDU), who sees responsibility for the municipalities and warned of excessive expectations.
The situation is alarming: 40 % of fourth graders can not swim safely, which makes the increasing number of non -swimmers a safety and social problem. Jakob Blankenburg, Chairman of the SPD in the district, emphasizes that every child should learn to swim - a point that is also based on the application of a feasibility study, such as Lüneburg Currently reported. The SPD also calls for better indoor times for local schools and sports clubs, which are dependent on the increasingly busy swimming offers.
the next step
The feasibility study should examine several aspects: determination of needs, location selection and economy of the project. In its public session on December 19 at 1 p.m. in the Palais on Werder, the district council will deal with the application, as well as with further plans to improve the swimming frastructure in the district. This is a crucial step to remedy the acute lack of swimming capacities and to ensure security in the water for future generations.
