Schwerin receives the first bicycle road: revolution for cyclists!

Gadebuscher Straße, 19055 Schwerin, Deutschland - The city's first bicycle road has been officially opened in Schwerin. Mayor Rico Badenschier (SPD) handed over the new bicycle traffic facility on December 20, 2024, which extends over 1,300 meters on Gadebuscher Strasse. The newly paved section now offers cyclists priority and is up to four meters wide, while pedestrians can be safe on sidewalks of 1.5 meters each. The entire project, which was associated with an investment volume of around 2.2 million euros, was funded by the federal government. The construction work lasted eight months and also included the renewal of drainage channels as well as the laying of fiber optic cables, such as ndr.de reported.

Cyclists can now look forward to a safe and well -developed route, while the project also created 32 new parking spaces for residents. The construction was carried out in close consultation with the city and the municipal utilities, which elicited a positive conclusion to the mayor: "We have managed to reconcile the interests of road users and the residents." The overall project shows a big step towards a more bike -friendly infrastructure in the state capital, although there is still a connection to the long -distance cycle path via the Lankower mountains. Badenschier expressed itself optimistically about the future implementation of this connection, such as nordkurier.de
