New storage pond delays construction in the ski area: uncertainties for financing!
The Postalm lift operator Linus Parlar faces a challenge: Due to financial uncertainties, new lease contracts with farmers, street companies and federal foresters have to be negotiated in order to advance the construction of a new storage pond in the ski area. Pilar pointed out that the financing of 2.5 million euros is on the brink as long as there are no long -term contracts. "Financing means long -term, since it is about very high sums," he explained. The construction, which was originally supposed to start in spring 2025, is now being postponed indefinitely, which endangers the changeover to sustainable snow -making in Abtenau and Strobl.
This storage pond is crucial: with a capacity of 6,500 cubic meters of water, it should enable the snowmaking of five hectares of the ski area. As Si-magazin , the Stubaier Gletscher, the largest glacier ski area in Austria, is already heavily on snowmaking. The glacier is massively investing in the technical systems to ensure snow assets from October to June. With 25 cable cars and 104 kilometers of slopes, the area currently uses three storage ponds with a total volume of 132,500 cubic meters to well supplied the impressive 200 hectares.
investments and planning for the future
To stay competitive, the mountain railway at the Stubaier Glacier works with the engineering office Klenkhart & Partner. Professional planning and advice are crucial so that the glacier will continue to be a safe winter vacation place in the future. Around 100 industry representatives received insights into the ongoing projects that have been taking place annually for 25 years. While the situation at the Postalm remains uncertain through financial negotiations, the Stubai Glacier shows how important clear planning and investments in infrastructure are in order to react to the challenges of climate change.
